Why go there?

This small village is something that causes to those who pass through there a feeling of fascination, admiration and delight. It is without a doubt a place to be missed.

Authentic and serene, the village that remains within these walls has something extraordinary about it. It is not for nothing that the Óbidos Castle is one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal!

In addition, Óbidos offers visitors unusual experiences, such as medieval reenactments or ginjinhas in chocolate cups.

What to do?

Currently, the Castle is functioning as a Pousada, but you can always take a walk on the ramparts around the Castle, stopping at the small terraces and taking beautiful panoramic pictures!

They say that going to Óbidos and not tasting the famous Ginjinha de Óbidos is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope. The creation of fruit-based liqueurs goes back to ancient times and places, and because it has a specific climate, Portugal has in the county of Óbidos, the best wild sour cherries in Europe. Don’t miss your shot! Also take the opportunity to buy some original souvenirs in the several little shops along the village.

If you are lucky, on your trip to Óbidos you may even find a reenactment, or people dressed in medieval style, if so, make some good memories!

The Santa Maria Square is a sublime plaza located slightly below the main street of the town. This square is surrounded by a roofed market and some old houses, very charming!

The Óbidos Lagoon is the longest coastal lagoon system on the Portuguese coast. A beautiful landscape not to be missed.
